What happens if Eldorado Stone or Eldorado Brick is damaged?
Let's face it...accidents happen! Don't worry if your stone or brick project gets a little chip. Using Eldorado’s Color Touch-Up Kit which includes easy DIY instructions small chips may usually be repaired. Touch Up Kit are available from Customer Service at 800.925.1491. These kits are not created for coloring aggregate exposed by cutting stones. Professional masons will bury cuts into transitions and/or hide them with mortar when grouting.
How do I clean Eldorado Stone®?
To clean dirt or other particles first try a simple soft bristle brush. If absolutely necessary use a mild type of detergent mixed with water or a solution of (no more than) 1 part white vinegar to 6 parts water. Rinse with clean water to remove any cleaning solution that might remain on the surface. Never use wire brushes, acid cleaners, power washers, bleach, paint remover or any other type of concrete cleaner as this will damage the stone.
How do I clean efflorescence from stone or brick?
When efflorescence occurs, as it commonly does with many masonry products, it is the generally the result of moisture movement through the masonry substrate. Once the moisture is on the masonry, it evaporates, leaving dissolved salts in the form of efflorescence. As long as the source of the moisture is controlled or eliminated, efflorescence naturally goes away over time. Efflorescence may be removed with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 6 parts water. Gently scrub using a very soft bristle brush and vinegar/water solution. Rinse repeatedly with clean water.
May I seal my Eldorado Stone project?
You do not need to seal Eldorado Stone. However, a sealer like CraftShield will provide additional protection and may make the masonry surface easier to clean if it becomes dirty. CraftShield is a breathable masonry sealer which will not change the look of your stone application.
What about masonry protection against graffiti?
In many areas, Eldorado Stone is actually considered a protection against graffiti. The color blends and uneven textures are not the best canvas for graffiti “artists”. However, if you should choose to use an anti-graffiti coating please speak directly to the manufacturer of the anti-graffiti coating product and ask your masonry contractor to submit a test prior to installation. There are urethane and wax-based sealers that can damage the surface or cause it to “yellow” or “ghost”. Other masonry sealers may encourage additional efflorescence on the stone’s surface. It is very important to note that no type of coating should be applied until the stone has been on the wall for at least 14 to 28 days. Feel free to contact a Anderson's Masonry Hearth and Home sealer expert to assist you with your sealer concerns.
