Prepare your Primo grill for direct cooking and warm to between 575 - 625 degrees Fahrenheit. Don’t use heat deflector plates for this recipe.
Hand press the hamburger into one inch thick patties. Using the mixture of salt, garlic powder and pepper season to preference both sides of the patty. Let patties rest at room temperature for one half an hour.
To get a good sear, cook burger patties over direct heat (575 – 625 (f) for two minutes a side. Than flip the burger one final time and close the draft door as well as the damper top. This action will cut off all airflow to the grill. Let burgers continue to cook like this for another 3-5 minutes. A meat thermometer can be of great help. Ideal burger internal temp is 150 (f) for medium rare and 165(f) for well done.
Then remove the patties from grill once they have reached desired doneness. Let the patties rest at room temperature for 4-5 minutes before enjoying. Finely garnish your burger with your favorite toppings.
Consider adding a slice of your favorite cheddar, bleu cheese, Monterey Jack or for a delectable treat try smoked Ghouda. Add the cheese in the last minute of cooking.
Please Note: When cooking at high temperatures, crack the grill about 1 inch and hold for 2 seconds before continuing with lifting the lid all the way. This is particularly important after you have closed the airflow of the grill and then reopen it.
Purchase and use premium ground beef with low levels of fat. For taste and health, swap chopped garlic for garlic powder. Minimize the amount of salt used in seasoning. Add lots of fresh salad fillings to boost your daily vegetable intake. Lastly consider using healthy multi-grain or whole wheat buns.
